EXPERIMENTS CARRIED OUT

The core motivation of the METAMORPHOSE project was the experimentation of the principles of metamorphosis with real-world objects. The objective of this empirical approach was to define the potential and the limits of the Metamorphose strategy. Using Rapid Prototyping technology, parts were fabricated which could be fitted to those of existing objects in order to create new, revitalized products. The results were evaluated and analysed in view of establishing the feasibility of applying METAMORPHOSE to other products. The experiments were carried out at the research laboratories of the Institute for Research/Creation in Media Arts and Technologies – Hexagram – located at Concordia University and the University of Montreal. Parts were produced in ABS plastic using fused deposition modelling (FDM) technology on a Stratasys Titan Rapid Prototyping machine.
